Sorry, Everybody

In case you missed this comment, I thought I’d make a new post out of it:

As the “anonymous” contributor of the recent run of “new” IC battles, I must say that I am extremely disappointed with King Tuthead. He does not keep me or the users of this site informed as to the possible posting of new battles, ignores my e-mail to him offering to help with the postings, and offers few explanations for his protracted absence here. Of the last batch of five battles I mailed him, he has posted just three over a span of FOUR MONTHS.

I’m sorry to have to say this, but until this site is straighted out, there will be NO MORE NEW BATTLES at ironcheffans.info.
I can appreciate that one might be overwhelmed with excessive work obligations, but that is no excuse for the utter lack of any explanation to me or to you all. Good luck finding a new source of IC battles, King Tuthead.

I’m sorry I screwed it up for the rest of you regarding the “new” episodes. I would love to have seen them, and I hope we do see them some day.

I will be the first to admit that this site has slipped down my list of priorities over the last 6-8 months. This site has always been, and will always be, a hobby for me. I obviously have not been able to commit to it as I did when I launched it in February 2008. Don’t worry. I have no intention of taking the site down any time in the foreseeable future, so you don’t have to start furiously downloading episodes. I will post the two remaining subtitled episodes within the next seven days.

Keith

Hmmm. This is an issue that i have have seen coming the last half year. Perhaps someone should consider bringing this site up to speed, like having more people that helps with the postings of new episodes, writing new reviews of episodes, to keep this site alive.

At least that is what i think.

  2. ser_pounce Says:

I’d just like to say that I appreciate this site even being available. I’m happy to wait as long as necessary for more new Iron Chef goodness :)

  3. A-20 Says:

I hope that Tut can straighten things out… I want to watch new episodes.

  4. dogbreath Says:

i agree with comment 2…..i am happy to wait as long as need be for epis to watch…..especially ones that never made it to food network here in the states……..allez cuisine!!!!!

Well, I’m going to have to say it: tetsujin, I understand that Tuthead hasn’t treated you properly, but I hope that you’ll understand that by punishing him you’re punishing the rest of us by making it impossible to get subtitled episodes of Iron Chef. I truly appreciate the episodes that you’ve funneled to the site, as well as your display of humility by donating them anonymously for so long. I do hope that you’re able to work things out with Tuthead for the good of the fan community.

  6. William "Blissey" Raymer Says:

I agree with VeganMike in saying that tetsujin070561 is punishing us all for the actions (or lack thereof-sorry, tuthead) of a few.

I implore tuthead and tetsujin to come to an agreement quickly in order to resume the mining of these golden episodes.

  7. tuthead Says:

No reason to be sorry. I take full responsibility for this.

Hey guys, I think at this point that you might have better luck if you had another site on which to host the episodes. I don’t think he wants anything to do with me anymore. And while I would love to be the exclusive home to these episodes, it’s more important that they are seen than for me to host them. (I don’t plan to turn the site completely over to anyone else, but if adding more contributors is part of the deal to get the episodes, I’ll gladly do that.)

If anyone would like to get in contact with him, you can send me a message and I will forward it to him. (Unless he wants to come add his contact information here. Otherwise, I don’t feel it’s appropriate for me to post it without his permission.)

    Keith

When I get home from work tonight, I will have the zipped VOBs up for the two subtitled episodes. (The DIVX files should be ready by tomorrow night.)

  9. Greg Says:

It’s sad the way things have turned out. I hope that somehow that things work out. I’ve always appreciated this site and hope it continues.

Thanks to tuthead for posting this for discussion. I found him to be the perfect partner for this IC-dissemination project. However, over the last four plus months, it became increasingly obvious that his life had changed substantially – because of sharply increased work demands, he no longer had the time, energy or will to continue with this website. After being left completely in the dark, it was clear to me that something had to be done.

I am a very sick person who contracted a near-fatal disease seven years ago. I luckily survived, but am now partially paralyzed with spinal cord and brain damage. I am still quasi-functional, but my life is very hard and I suffer from tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures and have had four small strokes since my illness. I could live a long time, or I could die tonight or tomorrow – there is just no way to know or guess. I’m telling this not to be maudlin or seek sympathy, but rather to help everyone to understand that I want to make available all these never-seen battles a.s.a.p. If, God forbid, I should die (or worse) soon, these artifacts are unlikely to ever see the mass IC audience. I would note that only two other people in the Western World have collections similar in scope to mine. One, my former trading partner in LA, was prescribed OxyContin ten years ago and became addicted. Despite my best attempts, I have never heard back from her, and I fear she may no longer be with us. The other person, Stephanie M., who was the “face” of IC in this country in the early years, found God, moved to Iowa, and completely and abruptly abandoned all IC activities, letting her massive IC Yahoogroup die a slow death to spammers. She is most definitely out of the loop, and probably forever. You will notice that in the last decade, neither they, nor anyone else, has made any attempt to provide battles to the mass community.

I have no problem with this website, or tuthead personally, but this project here doesn’t work anymore. Someone out there needs to step up and create and provide a new mechanism for dissemination of these materials. Otherwise, the party’s over, as far as I’m concerned. So, if you want them, make it happen…!!! I look forward to hearing from you…..

I would like to give a helping hand, but i do not know how to.

  12. Z Says:

The obvious answer is some kind of bittorrent. That’s what these guys: http://www.dapcentral.org/index.php are doing.

  13. Benny Kallstrom Says:

The Bittorrent site that is linked sounds good, if he would upload it there.

oh come on guys. u should continue this legacy of IC for everyone! Nobody will ever get a chance to witness a show that’s good, clean fun and educational entertainment! I myself may be certain that I’ll never be achieve but the Iron Chefs who appear in every episode give me inspiration to keep going in life no matter what hurdles obstruct the way. I am a person with cerebral palsy and I live in a country (actually, it’s the Philippines) where socioeconomic conditions seem to be gradually decaying. but this show gives me strength to keep working, hoping, and living despite my bodily infirmities as a cerebral palsy patient. please guys. we have to keep maintaining this legacy.

I agree with the posted comments about the potential for bittorrent dissemination. My ISP is Comcast, so there might be a problem with seeding from my end, but there are logistical measures to circumvent that. Let’s hear from some of the rest of you about this approach, please…..

  17. tetsujin070561 Says:

There is also the option of utilizing filesharing host websites, but that might be quite cumbersome, from both ends. I do maintain paid membership with Rapidshare and Sharingmatrix (today re-named Filesource).

  18. ser_pounce Says:

    Torrent would be preferable.

  19. John Doe Says:

This site’s videos don’t even work with the latest versions of Firefox for Mac. The same goes for Safari and Chrome.

  20. Z Says:

If nothing else, host ‘em and post ‘em, get at least a few other copies floating around out there.

  21. tetsujin070561 Says:

Substantive comments by THREE members here. Two for torrent and one for either torrent or filesharing website. There doesn’t seem to much interest in seeing new stuff.

I’m checking out the DAP site suggested above (thank you) to assess viability. One consideration for all potential users is that even if I edit out the commercials, each episode will consist of roughly 2 GB’s of vob files. That would make for very, very long torrent or filesharing downloads. If there isn’t much more interest, then I’m not sure if the torrent approach is feasible, given the issues with seeding. Either way, it will be a ton of work for me and for all of you, but that is probably unavoidable.

I’m counting episodes, and there are about 46 battles from 96-early 98 I have to produce that have subtitles and have never been aired on FN. A handful of these have already been presented here by tuthead, but without subtitles. Also, I have about 12 full-length 85 minute battles from early 1995 without subtitles (entire 60 minutes of cooking plus entire judging sequences) – in other words, completely unedited.

Also, I have copies of the original broadcasts of following specials without subs, of course: 1995 World Cup, 1995 Mr. IC, 1996 France Showdown and 1996 New Year’s Live.

It may take awhile for me to post and you all to download, but I am fully committed to providing these episodes to any of you here who want them. The number of interested parties, along with any technical considerations, will determine the method chosen for dissemination.

Please indicate your interest by e-mailing me at tetsujin070561@aol.com. Tuthead, of course, will receive copies of everything, but the rest of you will need to contact me. Thank you for your participation, and please feel free to continue this discussion here, as well.

  22. A-20 Says:

We could use the luelinks model. Basically, .rar with a password and upload to megaupload and post all the links on a fourm.

I’m afraid if the torrent option is chosen, people will get the episode and then forget to seed. Then a newcomer gets on the scene and has half-finished downloads because enough people aren’t seeding.

I’m ready to help get these episodes up!

  23. Greg Says:

According to my download manager, I have six hours left for IC430, which will make a total of 154 hours to download at 28.8 kbs dialup (which is all I have). I have IC431 up next.

If there are new episodes available, I will put them in the line to download, too. Thank you to all who can contribute. I wish I could do more.

  24. apoxonbothyourhouses Says:

I agree. However, mediafire would work best as it’s free and you can download unlimitedly. While it’s slow, it’s faster than hosting it on one site’s server.

I’m NOT for torrents. They, like A-20 says, can be very difficult if there are no seeders.

I would also love to see if anyone could translate/make subtitles for the original Japanese episodes.
