As the “anonymous” contributor of the recent run of “new” IC battles, I must say that I am extremely disappointed with King Tuthead. He does not keep me or the users of this site informed as to the possible posting of new battles, ignores my e-mail to him offering to help with the postings, and offers few explanations for his protracted absence here. Of the last batch of five battles I mailed him, he has posted just three over a span of FOUR MONTHS.

I’m sorry to have to say this, but until this site is straighted out, there will be NO MORE NEW BATTLES at ironcheffans.info.
I can appreciate that one might be overwhelmed with excessive work obligations, but that is no excuse for the utter lack of any explanation to me or to you all. Good luck finding a new source of IC battles, King Tuthead.

I’m sorry I screwed it up for the rest of you regarding the “new” episodes. I would love to have seen them, and I hope we do see them some day.

I will be the first to admit that this site has slipped down my list of priorities over the last 6-8 months. This site has always been, and will always be, a hobby for me. I obviously have not been able to commit to it as I did when I launched it in February 2008. Don’t worry. I have no intention of taking the site down any time in the foreseeable future, so you don’t have to start furiously downloading episodes. I will post the two remaining subtitled episodes within the next seven days.

The challenger took over the kitchen of a Spanish cuisine restaurant started by a man known as the missionary for Spanish cuisine in Japan. According to the Chairman, he stands at the top of Japan’s Spanish culinary world. He is the first Spanish cuisine challenger to enter Kitchen Stadium.

What makes this episode a rare and special treat for current Iron Chef fans is that it comes from the time before Iron Chef was aired on Food Network. It was recorded from one of the local stations broadcasting the show. It is in Japanese WITH English subtitles. I know you will enjoy being able to experience this rare episode not shown in North America in over 10 years.

There are two options for viewing this episode. The pop-up player will use the usual divx encoded file. This smaller, lower quality file can also be downloaded directly using the “Download File” option. Also in the download menu this time is an option to download a higher quality VOB file (approx. 0.9GB). (You can play the VOB file in VLC Player.)

While you are waiting for the episode to finish downloading, take a moment to visit my friend Kim’s new Scentsy site. There is also a link on the left side of the page. I have some of their products in the Iron Chef Collection office (OK, it’s just my living room ) but I really like them.

UPDATE: I’m three minutes into the episode, and I can already tell I will not be able to watch it. It’s definitely patterned after Iron Chef America as opposed to Iron Chef. If you want to see it, I’ll put it up, but I don’t think it’s a show for me. (I should probably give it more than 3 minutes to impress me, but it’s just so painful to watch!)

This is another one of those episodes where you will instantly recognize the challenger, despite the fact that you probably have not seen the episode yet. Why? Food Network (or Fuji) chose to include many chefs from 1996/1997 episodes they chose not to air in the added Food Network opening to the show. This is one of them.

Philippe Batton saw his mentor and two of his friends go down in defeat at the hands of Iron Chef Sakai. He began his culinary training at the age of 15. He became a head chef at the young age of 32. (He still lives in Japan. Here is a website for his restaurants.) Will the young French chef have what it takes to defeat an Iron Chef?

(Edit 3/22) – Only four days after posting this episode, I saw this story on one of the sites I read everyday. What are the odds?

(Edit 3/25) – Be sure to check out the comments to this post. You’ll see that we had a VERY SPECIAL visitor to the site.

The motivation for spending his fortune to create the Iron Chef Collection was to encounter new, original, rarely seen episodes, which could be called true artistic creations.

To realize his dream, he secretly started downloading the top episodes of various styles of cooking. And he named his downloads the Iron Chef Collection. The invincible site of culinary videos.

The Iron Chef Collection is the arena where episodes and videos await to be downloaded by master fans from around the world. Both the ICC and the fans have unlimited time to tackle their favorite Iron Chef episodes. Using all of their bandwidth, hard drive capacity, memory, they are to watch episodes never seen before. And if an episode not aired on Food Network becomes available for download, it will gain the people’s ovation and fame forever.

Every download, reputations are on the line in the Iron Chef Collection, where fans pit their favorite episodes against each other. What inspiration does today’s downloaded episode bring? And when will the ICC update? The heat will be on!

That’s right. The Iron Chef Collection launched two years ago today.

For those of you who don’t know the story, a small group of people from the now defunct Stage6 started this site as a place for Iron Chef fans to feed their Kitchen Stadium addiction. I haven’t talked to any of the Stage6 admin crew in quite a while, but without them, this site would not ever have started, so I truly appreciate their efforts to help get this place off the ground. A huge thank you to my original site co-founders Hendrix and Lostbabee. Also, a big thank you to episode reviewer Rodney Schroeter, article contributor William “Blissey” Raymer, episode contributor DoomTurtle, and episode contributor Anonymous Donor. (If I forgot anyone, please let me know and I will gladly add you to the list.) I also very much appreciate all of you who have made a financial contribution to the site. While I can honestly say the site isn’t going anywhere in the foreseeable future, your contributions certainly do make it easier for me to keep it going strong.

I still have a few Japanese language episodes from 1997 to add in the coming weeks. And I will continue to beat the internet bushes in an attempt to track down even more Iron Chef episodes that haven’t been seen in years.

First is the Salmon Roe (Ikura) battle between Hiroyuki Sakai and the first challenger from Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan. The challenger is considered one of the three best chefs in Hokkaido. He opened his award-winning restaurant at the age of 27. For 20 years, he has set the standard for quality cuisine in Hokkaido. (Keep an eye out for the current Prime Minister of Japan, Yukio Hatoyama, at the judges table.) This episode is in Japanese WITH English subtitles.

From the cool waters off the island of Hokkaido, we go to the warm islands southwest of Honshu: the Ryuku Islands for our second challenger this evening. The challenger leads a kitchen at a hotel on Okinawa. He is the first challenger from Okinawa to do battle in Kitchen Stadium. I don’t remember seeing Asako Kishi sitting at the announcing table before, but perhaps she should have done it more often. They seem to be having a great time during this episode. While I acquired this episode from the same source as our recent subtitled episodes, it appears to have been recorded in Japan. This episode is in Japanese with NO English subtitles. (There is some static in the audio of this file.)

New in the database this week: Salmon Roe – 424sub and Winter Melon – 440OA. Enjoy
